May...what happened?
Dead Dolphins, fishers and face lifts...
Dead Dolphin (7th)
Dolphin skull
Dolphin fins and ribs
A dead dolphin carcass was found on the North Coast. Cause of death was natural. Years ago, the dolphin ate a stingray, with the sting having lodged itself into the dolphin's throat. Although causing the dolphin discomfort, the sting did not immediately kill it. Over time, the dolphin's flesh enveloped the sting. Eventually this enveloping flesh grew so large as to block the dolphin's throat and choke it to death. Science officer Andrew Ross and fisheries specialist Dr. Tadaomi Nakai dissected the creature, removing its flesh and preserving the bone structure for future display. As the pictures show, the rotting process made quick work of the flesh, and the bones will soon become clean.
Great River pollution (12th)
Input pipe
Input pipe and polluted discharge
The Park has noted some specific inputs of pollution that must be addressed in the Great River watershed area. These pipes drain from the National Water Commission plant.
Work begins to give River Bay a face lift (14th)
Old gray walls
Poor colour choices that we will soon correct
As part of a development programme to improve the River Bay fishing village, the buildings are getting a face lift with some new paint and designs. Gone will be the faded gray sides and deteriorated roofing. New structure and colors will be applied in the coming months.

The pictures on the left are "Before." We will have "After" pictures in the near future.
Fisheries Programme (29th)
Fishermen identification cards
Fishermen receiving identification cards
Mr. Guscott speaking to the fishers
Having successfully completed three weeks of training in the Sustainable Fisheries Training seminars, fishers from the greater Montego Bay area received their permits to fish within the park bounds. These permits come with responsibilities, including respect for the Bogue Lagoon Fishing Sanctuary and no spearshooting.
