Environmental Day at Round Hill, 1st
Staff member, Couen Clarke, talks to potential volunteers from Round Hill Hotel
As part of a yearly tradition, the Montego Bay Marine Park Trust participated in Round Hill Hotel's Environmental Day which consisted of an expo and presentations from all participating organizations. The audience included staff members, as well as children from the nearby Bethel All Age School. All were treated to lunch and had a chance to win prizes in an environmental quiz.
Clown Therapy, 6th
The Montego Bay Marine Park Trust received an unexpected visit from Marie "Sundoc", the clown, in celebration of St. Nicholas Day. She conducted a Team Appreciation Intervention in order to motivate and support staff through fostering a spirit of creativity and trust. The exercises also encouraged positive communication skills and better team cohesion. Donnovan and Andrew are entertained by Sundoc
SWAT Redefines its Role, 7th
The Solid Waste Action Team (SWAT) reconvened for the first time since Hurricane Ivan struck in September. The direction and purpose of the group was examined, and it was suggested that one of its roles could be to serve as the advisory committee for COMAND's project on non-point source pollution in Montego Bay. COMAND is an umbrella non-profit group which stands for Community Organizations for Management and Sustainable Development.
Educational Presentations

Although school presentations slowed down for the holidays, visits were made to Farm Primary and Junior High and to Bogue Hill All Age, where students participated in a special workshop led by guest presenter, Lyndel Forrester, on composting and gardening. The school is currently composting using a drum donated by the Marine Park Trust, and is experimenting with growing small crops using contour farming techniques and mulching. When the compost has matured, this too will be used in the school garden.

Two environmentally-focused productions, Wah Yu Dash Wey Nuh Wash Wey and Angels Forever, were shown to a Rastafarian community group at Ion Station in the People's Arcade on the 10th. Two garbage drums were also donated on this day to aid the group's cleanup efforts. Both productions can be viewed at the Marine Park Trust office at Pier One.

Happy Hour Corner

The Montego Bay Marine Park Happy Hour happens on the first Thursday of every month. It is an educational forum open to the public, which takes place at Pier One. Although the presentation itself begins at 7pm, drink specials are offered from 6 to 8 pm.

At this month's Happy Hour on the 2nd, our intern from Germany, Peter Tiaden, presented his ideas to enhance the public image of the Montego Bay Marine Park Trust. He also shared the results from his survey on the the public's perception of the Park. A DVD of his presentation can be made available by contacting the Marine Park Trust.

Coming up in January

• Home improvements at the Marine Park Trust office
• Spelunking for garbage
